The Association for the Behavioral Sciences and Medical Education is celebrating its 41st year as the premier interdisciplinary forum for understanding and creating innovative solutions for the most pressing issues facing medical education today. ABSAME was founded in 1970 as a perpetuation of an NIH think tank constituted to advance the behavioral sciences as integral to medical education. That spark of commitment to teaching about human behavior as one of the most important determinants of health and illness continues to ignite all ABSAME meetings and activities. ABSAME members delight in the give-and-take that produces innovative ways to solve problems, overcome barriers, and put our precious resources to excellent use. Join us! There are no strangers at ABSAME!!

Conference Location
First impressions of Portland have visitors seeing green. The green, that is, of the trees and parks that dominate Portland’s landscape and the culture of the city’s population that thrives on sound environmental practices. Portland’s parks are as much a part of the quality of life as the ubiquitous coffeehouses, bookstores, and raindrops.
In this city of eccentricities, fanciful touches harmonize with a reverence for nature. Where else can you find sidewalks paved with famous quotes, a bevy of coffee shops selling unique Northwest blends, or the country’s largest independent bookstore, blanketing a city block with more than a million volumes? Pedestrian-friendly streets and half-size city blocks bode well for touring on foot – a great way to discover Portland’s distinct neighborhoods. A vibrant arts scene, great dining choices, and tax-free shopping make exploring downtown Portland after conference hours a feast for the senses.
