Call for Papers

The Association for the Behavioral Sciences and Medical Education is celebrating its 40th year as the premier interdisciplinary forum for understanding and creating innovative solutions for the most pressing issues facing medical education today.  ABSAME's  membership is an eclectic blend of professionals from a variety of medical specialties (family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry), a broad range of social sciences (psychology, sociology, anthropology, education, the humanities), and the spectrum of allied health professions (nursing, social work). Abstracts proposing presentations, posters, panels, and workshops from these or related disciplines are welcomed.

 

The following guidelines apply for all abstracts:

1. The deadline for electronic submissions is 12:00 midnight April 19, 2010 PT.

2. Submissions must be complete and follow the desired format. Incomplete or improperly formatted submissions will be returned un-reviewed. Authors may make corrections and resubmit before the deadline.

3. Only one proposal will be accepted per electronic submission. Anyone submitting more than one proposal must submit each individually.

4. All submissions must include the following information:

  • Title and description that reflect content related to the 2010 Annual Meeting theme,
  • A completed online submission form,
  • An abstract between 200 and 250 words in length, not including title, author(s) and credentials, or institution(s), and
  • Two clearly stated educational objectives appropriate for CME accreditation.

Review Process

All submissions will be peer reviewed using the following criteria:

1. Relevance to the conference theme , the behavioral sciences, and medical education

2. Potential for replication (practical, can be adapted/adopted)

3. Integration (how attendees can use the information provided)

4. Impact (likely to be effective in enhancing participant's knowledge and skill)

5. Clarity of objectives (specific knowledge participants will gain)

6. Clarity and organization of the proposal

Applicants are encouraged to diversify their presentation delivery and to utilize presentation techniques that increase participant engagement.

To qualify for the review process, a submission must adhere to the format requirements.  Notice of acceptance will be made no later than June 15, 2010. The ABSAME Review Committee retains the right to recommend changes in the type of presentation, or to suggest modifications to titles and descriptions.
